POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Finance is responsible for performing and managing all financial operations and policies for Thrive Community Management and Thrive related communities.

REPORTS TO: SVP of Finance

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Financial Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead all financial operations for Thrive Community Management and related communities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data.
  • Manage and continually improve the monthly close process, including consolidation, reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
  • Present financial results and key metrics to investors and executive leadership, highlighting performance trends and actionable insights.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly performance against budget and forecast; identify variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Direct cash flow management, capital allocation, and intercompany transactions to optimize liquidity and compliance.
  • Oversee corporate allocations, management fees, and reimbursement invoicing.
  • Annual budget writing overview and participation.

Process Improvement & Systems Management

  • Partner cross-functionally with Community Management, Development, Asset Management, Legal, Brand, and HR to align financial activities with organizational goals.
  • Lead technology and process enhancement initiatives to drive automation, AI adoption, and improved controls across accounting systems.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and standard operating procedures while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Administer the full life cycle of vendor management, from onboarding through payments and 1099 processing.
  • Oversee system setup for new entities, including bank accounts, accounting software configuration, and chart of accounts design.

Accounting Operations

  • Manage all accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and collections.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and corporate credit cards monthly.
  • Compute, invoice, and reconcile management and payroll fees.
  • Prepare and review reports through data collection, analysis, and summarization to support executive decision-making.
  • Oversee CAT Tax filings, regulatory reporting, and audit coordination (internal, external, and compliance-related).

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare comprehensive financial analyses to evaluate operations, costs, and forecasts, ensuring goals and objectives are met.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and other financial tools that enhance visibility across community and corporate performance.
  • Track and communicate budget-to-actual variances with the SVP of Community Management and other department leaders.

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and support all internal and external audits, ensuring transparency, timely responses, and remediation of findings.
  • Safeguard financial data integrity and confidentiality across all platforms and processes.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties and special projects assigned to support Thrive’s mission and strategic growth initiatives.

SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, multifamily preferred.
  • Proficiency in Entrata or similar property management accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in excel.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to accurately process and record a large volume of numerical data.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to sit, stand, or otherwise to perform work duties for 8+ hours per day
